Remote invigilation is here to stay. It allows candidates to take a high-stakes assessment in the comfort of their own home without the need to travel to a test centre and enables awarding organisations to deliver tests to large and small cohorts anywhere in the world.
Candidates are monitored by sharing their screen with an invigilator and using a webcam and mobile camera to show their surroundings. This preventing cheating and ensuring consistency and a level playing field among each cohort.
Here are some recommendations to pass on to your candidates who have exams coming up, from Eintech’s Anna Phelan, based on her experience of facilitating exams on behalf of awarding bodies:
- Take advantage of any practice tests made available to you to familiarize yourself with the system.
- Make sure you check your computer equipment ahead of time, is your making operating system is up to date?
- Ensure you thoroughly read your instructions well ahead of time. Make sure you know what material, if any, you are allowed to have on your desk – textbook, note paper, calculator, etc.
- What is the procedure for comfort breaks?
- On the day make sure you are in a well-lit room where you will not be disturbed.
- Ask people in your household to take it easy on using the internet. Stay off online gaming or Netflix to ensure that you have the best bandwidth possible
- Make sure you send queries to the awarding body well ahead of time.
